  • Adobe announces decision - HomeSite development ended effective May 26, 2009
    
    
    HomeSite development ended effective May 26, 2009

    After careful consideration, Adobe discontinued development of MacromediaŽ HomeSiteŽ software effective May 26, 2009. Field and channel sales of the product ended on May 26 and sales across all channels, including the online Adobe Store, ended June 18, 2009. Existing customers are encouraged to consider the development environment of AdobeŽ DreamweaverŽ CS4 software.

    Note: Adobe has also discontinued multiseat licenses of HomeSite. HomeSite licensing agreements with upgrade plans already in effect and not scheduled to expire from May 26, 2009, through June 18, 2009, will be honored, but all HomeSite upgrades will now be fulfilled with Dreamweaver CS4. Here is some additional information for HomeSite licensing customers:

    • HomeSite5.5 is no longer offered in new point product, multiseat licensing agreements or as part of new multiproduct, multiseat licensing agreements.
    • HomeSite licensing deals with upgrade plans currently in effect that did not expire from May 26, 2009, through June 18, 2009, will be honored, but HomeSite upgrades will now be fulfilled with Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 at no additional charge per the specifications of the existing contract.
    • Customers unable to add Homesite 5.5 to licensing agreements who opted to get individual copies of Homesite 5.5 through the Adobe Store do not qualify for the Homesite to Dreamweaver upgrade path. This option is only for HomeSite licensing agreements with upgrade plans that are currently in effect and were not due for renewal from May 26, 2009, through June 18, 2009.

  • FYI, I plan to keep this site (ASP4HS/PHP4HS) up for the foreseeable future, since it's obvious that HomeSite users haven't stopped using it yet, and probably won't just because Adobe posts a press release abandoning it. ;-)
  • I fixed links to all of Ken Tuck's extensions. His site changed from eyecreate.net to eyecreate.ca.

  • Found 3 articles on VTML written a while back by Christian Schneider for CFDJ. Added the links in the HomeSite-Related Articles list.

  • Added XSLT Tag Description by Vladimir Zyrianov.

  • I don't have a copy on here quite yet, but there's a neat new script that Bernard Nirlo just posted to this thread. It sets the current HomeSite Project as the documentRoot for the local IIS. Great for switching between IIS roots as you switch projects.

  • According to one brief forum posting,
    "Adobe will be removing the Homesite exchange as of January 18, 2007."
    FWIW, I probably have copies of all of the HomeSite add-ons listed there on my site as well. I'll check and make sure that nothing is lost by this closing.

    Update: I'm talking with the guy handling this. It's no big worry. That forum post was way too terse so some people got worried. That section hasn't had a new (non-spam) submission in over 2 years, so they are converting it to a static page, listing all the items that were there. You'll still be able to submit there if you want, it'll just be by emailing a maintainer. I'll try to have most or all on my site as well.

  • Christian Pelczarski sent in the link for his Railssite package of Ruby & Ruby-on-Rails support for Homesite.

  • As most of you have heard, Adobe has acquired Macromedia, so Homesite is now under Adobe products. I'll update references and links here soon, but all that I've tested so far redirect just fine. Team Macromedia is now called Adobe Community Experts.

  • Corey Haines' XSLAtHome site appears to be down for good. I have all his HomeSite-related files here so they aren't lost. (wayback site copy)

  • Kinda cool. Did you know there is a Wikipedia entry for HomeSite?
    Wikipedia is pretty astounding sometimes. Every time I visit I find more things that I'm surprised they cover, and cover so well. It's quite encouraging and inspiring to see what an open community can build.

  • Artiom Vendelev sent in our first Python Parser.
  • Posted SmartSense from Mattias Johansson, an intellisense add-on for Homesite, mainly supporting CSS and javascript but extendable to other languages. (incomplete ASP and VBS lang files are included)
    Note: Mattias fixed a path typo on 1/28.
  • Posted an update of Mattias Johansson's Listomatic script. He added the function to create files. Before it just created a bunch of code in the HS editor.
  • Took the "Asp4Hs/Php4Hs: Support Donations" page down. It's been up since 8/2001 and the only person to help out was one online friend ($5), and that was mostly as a joke. Tip: if you have a site, even one that people claim helps them out a lot, don't count on anyone ever being willing to show that appreciation in voluntary cash form. oh well.

  • Tim Boland of Seapine Software let me know they have a knowledge base article that gives the step-by-step instructions for integrating Homesite 4.x, 5.x and + with Surround SCM. (a cross-platform SourceSafe alternative) I've added the link to Asp4Hs: Source and Version Control.

  • Yuri Weseman sent in a repackaging of Corey Haines' Regular Expressions Tester, now with installation scripts and instructions. This lets you test your regular expressions with HomeSite.
  • Yuri Weseman is also working on TimeWriter for HomeSite, a new HomeSite add-on that lets you monitor, log/record and report on what time you are spending editing what files in HomeSite. It's not final yet but it's released and quite usable. So, check it out. Now is the time to give him feedback on it. Updated to v1.2 on 8/15.
  • Brian Dines sent in 3 new scripts:
    • Launch SQL Server Query Analyzer
    • Execute SQL Query
    • .Net Compile, Note that Brian upgraded this script on 8/11 from his original.
  • Yuri Weseman sent in an .ini and .conf syntax coloring parser.
  • Added a zip of Per Søderlind's FunctionHelp2, which was no longer available from his site or the DevEx.

  • Updated quite a few add-on links where other sites had changed.

  • Brian Dines submitted the great new Open File script for opening files linked to from other files. Similar to Edit Linked File but it opens relatively linked files in any syntax (includes, etc), as long as the path is in quotes. It can even go to the spot on a page where a named anchor (#here) is defined or call an external app based on a table of filename extensions.
  • William Morris sent in an update to Goto Function script that mimics the Shift-F2 functionality of Visual Basic. He has modified the original script to search all open documents, find the exact procedure name (rather than a substring), and highlight the found word.
  • I added a separate page for HomeSite add-on's for work in XML, XSL, XSLT, SQL.
    Most are not new, but I thought I'd put them together in one page.
  • DrTebi had sent me his Create XSL Stylesheet script, which I just now got to add.

  • SuperLinks 1.0 Released
    Kindler Chase of ncubed has just released an excellent tool for websites with ASP and links lists. It makes editing, categorizing and maintaining lists of links on a website quick and easy. Link data is stored in an XML database file and maintained via a powerful, yet easy-to-use admin interface. Simple to customize to the look of your own site. Let your customers edit their own links instead of calling you.
    
    I really can't recommend it strongly enough. Try it. You'll see.
    I've been using it here on my site for months now.
    
    (I know this isn't Homesite-related, but it's something I helped beta-test that I think is probably of interest to many of you ASP coders and webmasters.)
